When Marnie was there- discovering someone from pastAugust 5, 2021
Why did Marnie hide her identity at the start?
She hid her identity at the start as she wanted Anna to know all about her before she found the truth. Anna wrongly perceived Marnie and she just wanted her to know the truth about her past.
When Marnie was there is a 2014 Japanese anime drama film written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, produced by Studio Ghibli. It is based on John G. Robison’s 1967 novel of the same name. It is an emotional movie and the main protagonist of the movie is Anna Sasaki who is an introvert living with her foster parents in Sapporo. She hardly has any friends and does not like to interact with anyone.
Anna has to stay at her foster parent’s relative’s home during her summer break due to her asthma and she starts strolling around and this is when she meets Marnie, She becomes her first friend although she meets several individuals regularly, she never considers them as her friend. She starts going out to meet Marnie and they share their secrets, in no time they become close friends. Marnie too had a difficult childhood and she just wanted Anna to feel loved. After a while, Anna finds something strange about Marnie and she starts to explore about her and what she learns leaves her amazed. Marnie and Anna get closure to their relationship.
As the summer ends even her difficult behavior changes and she makes a few friends by the time she had to go back to her place. The anime drama film shows how holding on to hard feelings leaves people bitter. The world isn’t entirely against anyone although it might feel like that sometimes, but if carefully looked around they can always find people who are concerned about their well-being.
